Mutually Intelligible

I am not some distant galaxy
nor particles of the Northern Lights.
I am not the distance between stars
nor the great space between atoms.
I am not written in ancient language
nor do I speak in unknown dialects.
I have whispered, "I love you"
only in your vernacular, in your ear.
I have held you until we were
one being in the sea of existance.
Yet, you said, "I don't get you."
There is a part of us in both
that reaching does not touch,
that speaking does not hear.
That Berlin wall whose history
you've never studied
is here, repeating mistakes
you did not know man has
in the past made.
